Mobile revenue roundup - WK 34
CMGE (0302.HK) released a new hit, and Gala Technology has yet another successful sports game out
We maintain a complete database of all publicly traded companies that are active in mobile marketplaces, and estimate their mobile revenue on a daily basis using proprietary tools.
This dash looks at trends in weekly revenue, and is one of multiple used for triage towards researching companies.
Public companies Dashboard - Highlights
Here is the dash, remarks below:
Reminder: The % shown is an increase/decreased from last week’s estimated mobile revenue and and the average of the past 6 weeks of mobile revenue.
Winners of this week
CMGE (0302.HK) or China Mobile Games and Entertainment is the top attraction this week
Here’s the chart:Whilst it may look like a major catalyst, it’s important to put it in the context of their overall business. Their TTM Revenue sits at $359M. Even if they maintained this $150K/day (and they won’t based on history), it would still be fairly minimally impactful. Even if we do not have android data for China, it’s a bit too small for being a real catalyst at this point in our opinion. But certainly worth looking into if you own or are interest in owning their stock!
ZenGame (2660.HK) an old pick of ours and really well managed and dividend-paying company, is also showing a presence in the top 5 with +31%, so we had to take a look.
A quick glimpse at their est. revenue below shows that it’s mostly due to a slightly lower revenue over the past 2 months, and they’re back on pace.
A glance at all the other winners showed us that there’s no catalyst to deep dive on.
Loosers this week
Worth a mention:
Gravity is -26% on last weeks’ estimated revenue, mostly driven by Novice Hearts loosing steam in HK and TW.
Also, Gravity released a new game (non-Ragnarok IP) called 뮈렌 : 천년의 여정 or in english Muren: The Journey of the Millennium in Korea. Whilst the game briefly hit top 5 overall in download, it barely made the top 200 games in revenue and will likely yield no long-term impact.
Mr. Blue (207760.KQ) ‘s new game keep on loosing steam, we covered it last week, nothing else to say there.
Follow Ups
Gala Technology (2458.HK) has had a strong end of week with a release on Friday of their new Basketball game 美职篮巅峰对决 (NBA Showdown). We like to say they could be the future mobile EA Sports of China, as their games all seem to really have no decay at all - which is a testament of quality.
Bear in mind that we only have iPhone data for China. A rule of thumb we generally use is Android = 2x iPhone, which would put our estimate of current revenue pace at about $2M/week, or $100M/year.
Gala Technology is a research/deep dive away from being promoted to our pick list, especially with this new game release as a catalyst.
Conclusion
CMGE might have taken the spotlight, it’s Gala Technology that got us even more interested this week again. Time to dig into their business a bit more.
